I am Two Spirit and a Service Dog Handler. Being openly queer and physically disabled led to merciless bullying throughout most of my adolescence. When I realized that teaching was my calling, I made a vow that I would never be like the unsupportive or bigoted teachers I endured as a student; rather, I would prioritize students’ wellbeing above all else, especially for Kumeyaay youth. So long as I remain on their lands, I offer my services to their peoples.
I was a university writing tutor for five years and currently lecture for San Diego State University’s American Indian Studies department. I have undergraduate degrees in English, Creative Writing, Fine Arts & Humanities, American Indian Studies. I also have an M.A. in Rhetoric & Writing with an emphasis in the Teaching of Writing.
*-My Tsalagi ancestors are listed on Dawes and my family still lives on their farm allotment in Florida, Although the land was unsuitable for growing tobacco, they make a living growing hay for the state highways and for local flood mitigation.
