The Corp. For Public Broadcasting pays executives billions. They could have funded programming, but chose to shut down.
Billionaires are on the same team. Millionaires do their propaganda.
Bill Nye went on CNN to rant about Trump cutting funding, but used his Netflix show to platform multiple members of this capitalist class. He propagandized for Monsanto which is now owned by Bayer, one of the original funding sources for the Nazis. At the time of airing, Monsanto was negotiating the merger while managing multiple military contracts for weapons like white phosphorous.
There are only 3 members on the governing board for CPB, 2 of whom are Trump supporters. CPB intentionally left 6 of the 9 seats empty and Biden is the one who confirmed the 3, knowing how Ruby Calvert & Elizabeth Sembler felt about Trump and social enrichment or informational programs. CPB, PBS, & NPR have done nothing the past decade except push “both sides” propaganda and encourage support for imperial violence across the globe.
The acting President & CEO for CPB, Patricia Harrison, is a Republican who has worked with GOP to siphon, cut, or misuse funding since 2003. She was originally appointed to a government role by George HW Bush and served as a cultural ambassador to Israel. Her position included writing an article about how international education can be used by terrorists to attack the west which means the military should take over international education curriculum and oversight. Oh… and the man who appointed her to the President position for CPB had to immediately step down amidst backlash.
Neoliberals have done most of the footwork to garner neoconservative and fascist support for cutting this type of media. Trump’s administration will disclose information about corporate corruption and bad faith actors expecting Democrats to reflexively deny the accusations. The Democrats’ reactionary ad hominems fuel the neocons/MAGA and make them feel justified or like they truly have found secret information. Neoliberals refuse to engage with the facts while neoconservatives refuse to contextualize anything. Meanwhile capitalists collect dividends and live off the interest.
Of course I am sad that we are potentially losing so much programming, but I will not pretend this was unavoidable or solely Trump’s fault. I also will not mourn the loss of a pro-Israel lobby. CPB expects people to not know their board members or history, but to direct their anger at their preferred target: Trump/MAGA. Democrats are just as much to blame here and nothing is going to change if neoliberals continue fighting to reinstate their status quo.
