New Christian Conservatism arose in the 1930s in the U.S. as a direct response to populist socialism campaigns run by “progressive” politicians. It’s survived decades of changing tides within western neoliberalism, libertarianism, and neoconservatism. One genocide is not going to destabilize white supremacy.
“Some very influential leaders, all of whom I like — Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Marjorie Taylor Greene — have taken a very controversial stance in regards to the nation of Israel,” he said.
Last week, Carlson hosted a prominent white nationalist named Nick Fuentes on his show. Although Carlson disagreed with Fuentes on his most antisemitic statements, such as American Jews are more faithful to Israel than they are to the United States, he did broadly align with Fuentes on his views about the country itself.
The New Christian Right is not a monolith, this is true, but Israel is not going to fracture the ideological community. Political party standing or candidates? Sure, but the christofascists need Israel to fulfill their eschatological prophecies and usher in the new era.
That new era will be called the 4th Turning (Kirk et al.), the Covenant (religious leaders), Restoring the Holy Land (religious leaders/politicians), the Resurgence/Renewal, etc. The name might differ, but the new era requires Christian forces returning to Jerusalem to seize control and destroy all heretics.
So New Christian Conservatives, christofascists, might disagree on certain issues related to Israel and its ongoing settler colonial genocide, but they all still believe in Christian supremacy, western supremacy, Anglo supremacy, etc. Don’t lull yourself into a false sense of hope that fascists will take themselves out and clean up their own mess. Neoliberalism and disdain for “identity politics” is enough of a shared enemy to keep the core movements operational and capable of recruiting.
And did y’all forget when Neo-Nazis and “alt-right” darlings cheered when Tucker Carlson took over at Fox News for Bill O’Reilly? Or how they said he does a better job recruiting for their cause than they could ever dream?
The Republican party is, at its core, anti-Semitic because they believe they are the true chosen by an evangelical god, not the Jews. They believe it is their destiny and right to return to the Holy Land, and even agnostic or atheist neoconservatives view Judaism as incompatible with white supremacy. These are small squabbles for control, not deep ideological divides within neocon circles.
